The World Diplomatic Forum and Ambassadorial Roundtable support information dissemination of world events, their impact upon global and United States foreign policy and committed to generating new ideas, bringing different parties together to the negotiation table and easing of global tensions by initiating open debates. The Dalai Lama’s message, centered on caring for others with kindness and compassion, emphasizes that education, scientific inquiry and global responsibility are essential means to create a more peaceful world.“We are honored to host His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at UC San Diego and thankful that he will share messages of global compassion with our graduates and their families, as well as with a broad public audience,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “A man of peace, the Dalai Lama promotes global responsibility and service to humanity. These are the ideals we aim to convey and instill in our students and graduates at UC San Diego.”
His Holiness is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, who has dedicated his life to offering contemplative dialogues on the subject matters of science and Buddhism, education and secular ethics, kindness, compassion and universal responsibility, as well as ethics in the fields of environmental sustainibility, global warming and leadership. In 1989, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He also became the first Nobel laureate to be recognized for his concern for global environmental issues.
INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND
The world’s economic leaders and stakeholders came together at the 2017 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings amid a more positive outlook on the global growth, which is forcast to hit its fastest pace in five years. A clear theme running through the meetings was the need to protect the growth momentum, given policy and political uncertainties, and to help ensure that everyone has the opportunity to share in the fruits of global integration and technological progress.
More than 10,000 people took part. In addition to central bankers, finance ministers and other officials, the meetings drew around 650 journalists, 160 parliamentarians from 68 countries, and a record 850 civil society representatives, who gathered to learn, listen, and share their points of view.
The Ambassadorial Roundtable joined thousands of diplomats in Washington, DC, discussing a range of pressing global economic issues and challenges. Representatives of other international organizations, the private sector, media, civil society organizations, member country parliaments, academia, and think tanks. The IMF will implement policies that promote opportunities for all within our countries, sustainability over time, and cooperation across countries. We will implement domestic policies that develop an adaptable and skilled workforce, assist those adversely affected by technological progress and economic integration,and work together to ensure that future generations are not left to pay for the actions of the current one.
